Hello there. What's with the lack of recipes, you ask? Well, I've been in Texas for the past week visiting my lovely family and friends. I've missed them. I've missed the Texas skies. I've missed my old stomping grounds. I'm such a nostalgic sucker, always yearning for the past.
Head-On Shrimp Pad Thai
For the past three years of my life, one of my most consistent meals has been Thai take out. Yup, once a week almost every week. Shortly after moving to Chicago, I found my local Thai restaurant. They happened to be a five minute walk from my apartment which was a nice perk. I was making my way through their menu, having gotten more than halfway through, but sadly we had to part ways when I moved to Brooklyn and now I'm still searching for my new place.
Chocolate Banana Cake with Vanilla Bean Buttercream
Can I tell you a secret? I don't actually like sweet things all that much. Shhhhhhh.
A few times a month I do bake cookies, cakes, muffins, crumbles, bars, shortbreads, and...you get the point. Each time around, I only consume one or two servings myself. The one exception being any type of bread, i.e. banana bread, pumpkin bread, zucchini bread. The rest goes to either the boy, the roommate, co-workers, or other friends. I mean, I do thoroughly enjoy the one or two servings I eat, but I never have the desire to devour the rest of the batch, as delicious as it may be.
Corn Chowder with Roasted Poblanos + The Rockaways
I biked to The Rockaways on Memorial Day, it was a glorious way to start the unofficial summer season. The boy and I biked from our apartment in Cobble Hill to the Q train, then took that to Sheepshead Bay and proceeded to bike to the beach from there. We met up with a few friends and spent some time in the sun and sand. The water was still ice cold, so maybe I'll go swimming for real next month when it is officially summer.
